Mustangs Dominate 25 hours of Thunderhill

December 8th 2019, Willows Ca.

The endurance race started Saturday at 11 a.m. and concluded Sunday at noon. The 25 Hours of Thunderhill is one of the most challenging auto races in the country and this year’s event proved it with drivers battling rain, mud and wind throughout the event.

In one of most grueling endurance races of the last years where adverse weather put handling to the test, it is incredible to see CorteX Racing suspension in action across the podium.

2019 NASA Pro Racing 25 Hours of Thunderhill E0 Class winners:

Dale Sievwright, Dan McKeever, Brian Smith and Ryan Roberson!

The group ran a Ford Mustang GT, and the only upgrade was the suspension.

– Nasa Speed News

Conditions were so bad, drivers described it more like a rally.

We didn’t have the pace in the wet, but we knew we had the pace in the dry, so we were watching the changing conditions,

We just tried to keep it on track and fortunately luck was in our favor today.

– John Birkhead

Fantastic Finish by Spec Mustangs, 2nd in E0

While MPACT won by 19 laps in the E0 class, the race was much closer, with DIG Motorsports and Honda Racing THRW mixing it up and making it tough sledding early in the race.

DIG Motorsports finished second in a Ford Mustang and Honda Racing THRW 2 finish third in a Honda Civic Type R.

CorteX Racing equipped Spec Mustangs driven by Beau Borders, Roger Eagleton and others drivers finish 2nd in the E0 class.

Mustang or “Mudtang”?

What came to be deemed the ‘MUDtang’ displayed some awesome driving in more rally cross conditions than circuit racing.

Eagleton Expecting Great Racing as Trans Am GT Returns to Sonoma

Sonoma, CA – June 5, 2019 – GT Racing returns to wine country, and specifically the beautiful hills north of San Francisco the weekend of June 14-16 when Round 4 of the 2019 Trans Am West Coast Championship presented by Pirelli gets underway.

On what is effectively a home track, California native Roger Eagleton will be looking to continue his fine start of the season in the GT class, where he has already tasted success this year, winning the opening round of the season at Thunderhill before a podium second place at Laguna Seca in the beginning of May.

Thunderhill is a particularly happy hunting ground for Roger, who has twice won the “world’s longest race” – the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

The 2017 SCCA Spec Mustang Champion, Roger is also very familiar with the demands of Sonoma – and indeed with the unique qualities of the current crop of Ford Mustangs – having competed there as recently as October of 2018 during the SCCA Runoffs.

Testing for the weekend’s action begins next Friday morning, June 14 with a solid 55-minute session, followed by an hour practice in the afternoon. The smaller fields that assemble for the West Coast Championship should mean Roger and his crew are able to get plenty of clear road to ensure the car is set up to be competitive. A forty-minute practice session on Saturday, June 15, is followed in the afternoon by the all-important qualifying session, with the race going green for the Trans Am feature race at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 16.

Roger’s race car for the SCCA accredited 2019 Trans Am West Coast Championship presented by Pirelli is the No. 98 Five Star Property Management / Energy Real Estate Ford Mustang. A successful entrepreneur, Roger promotes partnerships within his businesses and network. Five Star Property Management is the Bay Area’s premier boutique property management company, while Energy Real Estate is based in Roger’s hometown of Burlingame and is primarily concerned with Residential Sales.

Speaking ahead of next weekend’s action, Roger was clearly looking forward to racing again when he told us,

“The entire team at DIG Motorsports is excited to head to the race weekend at Sonoma Raceway with Trans Am. This is our third ever Trans Am event weekend as a team and we are very focused on the West Coast Series at the moment. The competition in the GT class is really heating up and it will be challenging for us to continue to do well.”

The GT class cars that Roger competes in are heavier, less powerful cars than the TA and TA2 cars that he will share the track with, something he acknowledged when he added,

“We are in a much heavier and lower horsepower car compared to rest of field, but we know Sonoma really well, it is a great track for us, and we hope we can make up for some of the power differences with the great braking and handling performance that is a signature of these Spec Mustangs. No matter what, we know that this upcoming Trans Am weekend should make for some great racing for the fans and there should be some really good battles going on!”

Sonoma Raceway, formerly Sears Point Raceway and Infineon Raceway, is a 2.52-mile road course and drag strip located on the landform known as Sears Point in the southern Sonoma Mountains in Sonoma, California, USA. The road course features 12 turns on a hilly course with 160 ft of total elevation change.

ElginRacing Wins 2015 Devil in the Dark 12 Hour Endurance Race

Millville, NJ (April 25, 2015) – ElginRacing finished first overall in the 6th Annual Devil in the Dark 12 hour endurance race at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

This victory continues ElginRacing’s successful endurance racing record as Greg Obadia, David Jacobs and Todd Lamb stood on the top step of the podium after completing 418 laps in their #00 Ford Mustang BOSS 302R.

ElginRacing Crew

Forty teams from around the country competed on April 24-25, 2015. In Friday night’s qualifying session, Greg Obadia put the car on the pole with a lap time of 1:26.150. The green flag dropped on Saturday at 11:55 am with David Jacobs behind the wheel for ElginRacing. Jacobs, Obadia and Lamb rotated driving duties approximately every one and half hours to replenish fuel and change tires during the twelve hour race. ElginRacing finished the race with a 16-lap lead ahead of the second place highly competitive #28 Johnstone Supply BMW that was uncharacteristically hampered by a mechanical issue.

Back of the Pace Car

The MEATHEAD Racing crew, directed by Mike Collins, preformed lightning-quick pit stops. ElginRacing’s Car Chief Jimmy Padgett ensured that the car ran with 100 percent reliability throughout the grueling twelve hours. Francois Bru, team strategist, played a critical role in analyzing lap times and developing pit stop and pace strategies. ElginRacing’s preparation and offseason development were key to winning the race as some of our toughest competitors.

“Our win today is a tribute to the hard work of the SCCA volunteers and the professionalism exhibited by each of our competitors, making The Devil in the Dark a great event,” said Ben Jacobs of ElginRacing. “On any other day we might not be so lucky.”

Finish LineElginRacing’s BOSS 302R made its endurance debut one year ago winning the SCCA’s 2014 Devil in the Dark 12-hour race. The driving team of Jacobs, Obadia and Lamb also took the overall win of the Charge of the Headlight Brigade 13-hour Enduro race in October 25, 2014 at Virginia International Raceway.

The ElginRacing-prepared Ford Mustang BOSS 302R platform has proven itself by winning all three of the endurance races ElginRacing has entered.

ElginRacing would like to recognize CorteX Racing for their support.

ElginRacing posted updates, images and videos from the race on its Facebook page: www.facebook.com/elginracing.

2015 SEMA Mustang GT

A capable track-day car, while being much more comfortable than any S197 Mustang we have built to that level with similar parts.

2015CortexGTRender_600

CorteX Racing already made a name for itself with a cutting-edge SLA suspension package for the S197 Mustang.

Ford had set out to build a two-door sports car that would mop the floor with anything from America, Asia, or Europe on a road course, but its 2015 Mustang has a higher standard to live up to.

We have a tough reputation to uphold since our suspension package for the 2005-2014 S197 Mustang was refined and handles amazingly well. In fact it is good enough to run with Europe’s finest supercars.”

Ford Mustang Aftermarket Part Upgrades years 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019

“People might be shocked to hear me say that it could take a while for an upgraded 2015 S550 to equal the performance of our 2014 Mustangs with the Xtreme Grip suspension systems installed.”

“After upgrading our 2015 Mustang GT with the new [CorteX] coil-over package, adjustable sway bars, bump-steer kit, and massive brakes it becomes a capable track-day car, while being much more comfortable than any S197 Mustang we have built to that level with similar parts.

That said, CorteX still set out to improve upon the all-new suspension under the S550 chassis. With the refinements already provided by Ford, the platform proved a perfect basis for a performance-oriented vehicle for The SEMA Show.

“We are a suspension company and cater to both the street enthusiast as well as the professional road racer. While most other builders will likely focus their SEMA builds on decadent, blingy parts and market hype, we wanted to build an S550 that had real-world parts people are going to want for improving the handling of the 2015 Mustang they already have or are about taking delivery of,” Filip said.

“The car you see here was built in about six weeks. The changes have been extremely effective and have dramatically transformed the handling of the car. With that said, our work is not finished. We have only just begun to explore the potential of this new chassis. That is truly a satisfying, yet exciting direction to be headed.”

That’s not to say that they left the rest of the car alone. Quite to the contrary, the CorteX 2015 Mustang sports an aggressive road-racing look highlight be visual upgrades like a next-gen Tiger Racing hood, CorteX/G-Stream carbon front splitter, CDC spoilers, and a set of HRE FF15 Flowform Wheels.

Once this car is done representing the CorteX brand on the trade-show floor, this 2015 GT will hit the road attending various events—from shows to races—where Filip can show off the car’s full capabilities.

“We plan to drive the car a lot and attend as many events as possible. The car might even be used as a daily driver to put a lot of street miles on our parts. CorteX is a relatively new company and we are going to us this car to create brand awareness and to show people how well our products really do work,” he said.

“You will likely find our 2015 Mustang at a road course event or even a drag strip several times a month as we test our products and show people that a Mustang with CorteX Xtreme-Grip is a world-class performer. What 1LE? What Z28?”

2015 Mustang S550 Parts (as of post)

While the Cortex team is out displaying and demonstrating this combination, they will still be working on more new products for this all-new Mustang.

“We will definitely continue refining the S550 platform and bring the products we are already using on this car to market, including coil-over shocks, adjustable sway bars, control arm and subframe bushings, alignment products for toe control and camber adjustment plates, and chassis lightening components,” Filip added.
