The AiM SmartyCam GP HD Rev. 2.2 is designed with the single purpose of providing great videos that include all the technical information that will help you to improve your performance, the new SmartyCam GP HD Rev 2.2 is the perfect camera for your track day car, race car, race bike or whatever you drive.  A flexible, expandable system that’s easy to install on any kind of vehicle, the SmartyCam GP HD is robust, reliable and has been engineered to withstand the extreme working conditions typical of motorsports.

• Real-time Data Overlay. The SmartyCam GP HD Rev 2.2 overlays all the data you need from different sources. From GPS: track map, vehicle position, speed, lap- and split-times. Connected directly to your ECU, your SmartyCam GP HD gathers RPM, throttle, gear, acceleration, temperature, pressures as well as data from additional optional sensors.  All this info can be overlayed on your videos (and the format can be changed at different points in the video) for incredible post-race analysis and professional-looking presentation.  You can lay videos from any SmartyCam side-by-side to compare laps.
• Automatic Start & Stop. You are on the starting grid, ready to sprint, focused on the start. The last thing you can worry about is… switching on your camera. That’s why SmartyCam GP HD Rev 2.2 can be switched on/off automatically by the logger it’s connected to.  Recording can be started/stopped automatically when a speed or RPM threshold is reached. You decide how long after dropping below the selected threshold the video will automatically stop.
• New CMOS Sensor. Never again will you experience that seasick “wave effect” you get watching videos recorded by a generic sports camera.  There is no “wave effect” with the AiM SmartyCam GP HD’s new CMOS sensor and improved video filtering.  So when you’re at 8000 RPM, your SmartyCam has been designed for that environment and for those vibrations.  “Wave effect” is just a memory.  The new CMOS also significantly improves image quality in low-brightness conditions, reducing noise to a minimum.
• Proprietary Lenses Designed for Motorsports. Generic action cameras are designed to record videos in many different situations, such as skiing or surfing, but in motorsports they tend to record misleading videos.  They straighten out the view ahead: when on track, the corners simply disappear.  When you want to check your track performance, those videos are useless because the images are distorted.  Being a camera dedicated to motorsports, SmartyCam GP HD features lenses specifically designed to avoid distortion.
• Expansion Flexibility. With its external microphone/jack, the SmartyCam GP HD can be set up to add real-time sound to your video. It’s also very flexible: you can add optional modules to fit it perfectly to your needs.

The narrow HFOV lens (67°) is preferred for closed-roof cars, as it “sees” the track just within the windscreen pillars, reducing that unpleasant black border typical of generic cameras.  The wide HFOV lens (84°) is specific to open-roof, formula car and kart use, where it captures a broad, undistorted view of the track.
