Strut suspension system assembly wikipedia

Strut Suspension Systems

The MacPherson strut is a type of automotive suspension system that uses the top of a telescopic damper as the upper steering pivot.

The strut will usually carry both the coil spring on which the body is suspended and the shock absorber, which is usually in the form of a cartridge mounted within the strut (coilover).

The engineers at CorteX have modernized several purpose built struts and coilover systems for all applications from street to race use.

Strut Advantages Strut Disadvantages

– Compact, more engine space
– Easy geometry set-up
– Simple design, durable = less wear and tear
– Relatively small suspension travel = no kinematic problems
– Restricts vertical movement w/o camber angle change and/or sideways movement
– Less freedom vs. Multi-link suspension
– Less camber change and roll center adjustment

A Bad Reputation?

In the mustang aftermarket, coil-over shocks and struts have gotten a reputation for being too harsh for street, and only suited for track-use cars.

We are not surprised. With cheap coilover mods available from other manufacturers, complaints typically include bottoming, incorrect spring rates, and valving that is not suitable for the intended use.

The majority of aftermarket coilovers are poorly engineered resulting in insufficient suspension travel

Engineered and Purpose Built

CorteX shocks and struts deliver professional engineering, purpose-built for street or race use, for a great bang for the buck compared to the closest competitor.

Our Xtreme-Grip™ “Street” coil-overs have been designed for maintaining bump travel even with the vehicle lower, both spring rates and valving has been carefully selected for the best driving experience.

Street – Xtreme-Grip™ Coil-over Systems

  • Street-valved front struts and rear shocks
  • Firmer ride and more control that OEM
  • Ideal with street tires
  • Street driving with occasional track days
  • Ride comfort and lower noise/ vibration (vs. Track system)

Track – Xtreme-Grip™ Coil-over Systems

  • Race-valved SA front struts and SA rear shocks.
  • Track use 80-90% of the time
  • Ideal with race tires
  • Optimized for performance, not comfort

Our custom offset wheels allow you to run 18 x 10.5″ wheels and 315mm tires on all 4 corners

All CorteX front struts are available with standard tire fitment, and optional 315mm tire fitment and Camber-Caster Plates.  Racers will find the ambidextrous CorteX struts housing design convenient since this saves on cost of carrying spares.

Coil-Over Shock Options
